How to open a CSV with foreign/special characters without corrupting the file

In order to view foreign/special characters (é, ç, ü, etc) in Excel, you will need to make sure the CSV file is imported in a UTF-8 format.

For that, follow these steps -

  • Open Excel
  • Click “File” and “New”
  • Click on the “Data” tab
  • Click “From Text” and select the CSV file
  • Select “Delimited”
  • For “File origin,” select “65001: Unicode (UTF-8)”
  • Click “Next”
  • Select “Comma”
  • Click “Finish”

That's it!
