If you haven't yet had the opportunity to create a segment, check out this article on Discovering Companies by Criteria or People by Persona.
Getting Started
Okay, you've just Discovered and Created a Segment in Studio. Now what? Well, as mentioned above, you’ll need to put those accounts or leads somewhere—and it's an even better chance that Salesforce is one of those locations.
Let's walk through the steps to importing those valuable Leadspace Accounts, Contacts, or Leads into Salesforce so your teams can begin actioning on them.
- Once you've created your Segment, click the three vertical dots menu.
- Navigate to the Download option and hover until you receive additionl options

Importing into Salesforce
Which Tools to Use
There’s a choice of two import tools for Salesforce:
- Recommended: Data Import Wizard—this tool, accessible through the Setup menu, lets you import data in everyday standard objects, such as contacts, leads, accounts, and data in custom objects. It can import up to 50,000 records at a time. It provides a simple interface to specify the configuration parameters, data sources, and field mappings that map the field names in your import file with the field names in Salesforce.
- Data Loader—this client application can import up to five million records at a time, of any data type, either from files or a database connection. It can be operated either through the user interface or the command line. In the latter case, you need to specify data sources, field mappings, and other parameters via configuration files. This makes it possible to automate the import process using API calls.
Leadspace recommends using the Data Import Wizard when starting out; it’s more intuitive and has a more user-friendly interface. You can access it from Salesforce setup (whereas Data Loader is an external application.

Importing Leads, Contacts, and Accounts into Salesforce
Prepare for Data Import
- Export your Segment from Leadspace. You'll use this exported data file to now import the data into Salesforce.
- Clean up the import file for accuracy and consistency. This involves updating the data to remove duplicates, delete unnecessary information, correct spelling and other errors, and enforce naming conventions.
- Compare Leadspace fields with the Salesforce fields you can import into, and verify that your data will be mapped into the appropriate Salesforce fields.
- Make any configuration changes required in Salesforce to handle the imported data. For example, you might need to create new custom fields, add new values to picklists, or temporarily deactivate workflow rules.
Leads & Contacts
Your import file needs the following headers (at the minimum*). Note that the following header names are specific to Leadspace downloaded segments and contacts.
- Person Email
- Person First Name
- Person Last Name
- Company / Account Name
Note: these are the minimum fields needed to upload your Leads into Salesforce. However, with the wealth of Leadspace Enriched Fields, be sure to include and map as many Leadspace Enriched 3rd Party fields as necessary to ensure your leads contain as much information as necessary for your Sales and Marketing Teams.
Accounts
Your import file needs the following headers (at the minimum*). Note, the required headers for accounts differ from Leads—
- Company / Account Name
- Website
Do note: these are the minimum fields needed to upload your Accounts into Salesforce, but we recommend mapping as many Leadspace Enriched Fields as possible to your Account object to enrich your accounts as thoroughly as possible to provide high-quality data for your Sales and Marketing Teams.
Use the Data Import Wizard
Once you have created an export file and cleaned up your Leads, Contacts or Accounts, follow these steps to import data using the Data Import Wizard.
- Start the wizard.
- From Setup, enter Data Import Wizard in the Quick Find box, then select Data Import Wizard.
- Review the information provided on the welcome page, then click Launch Wizard!
- Choose the data that you want to import.
- To import accounts, contacts, or campaign members, click Standard Objects. To import custom objects, click Custom Objects.
- Specify whether you want to add new records to Salesforce, update existing records, or add and update records simultaneously.
-
- With newly created Leadspace Accounts or Leads, we recommend adding and updating records simultaneously so you don’t create new accounts or leads that might already exist in your database.
- Specify matching and other criteria as necessary. You can hover over the question marks for more information about each option.
- Specify the file that contains your data. You can either drag and drop your file, select the file type you want to upload and select Choose File.
- Choose a character encoding method for your file. Most users can accept the default character encoding.
- Click Next.
- Map your Leadspace and existing data fields to Salesforce data fields. The Data Import Wizard will try to map as many of your data fields as possible to standard Salesforce data fields.
- However, if Salesforce can’t automatically map fields, you will need to do this manually. To do this, you must select ‘Map’ and find the Salesforce field best associated with the CSV Header field in your file. More details are below:
-
- Scan the list of mapped data fields and locate any unmapped fields.
- Click Map to the left of each unmapped field.
-
- In the Map Your Field dialog box, choose the Salesforce fields you want to map to and click Map. The Map Your Field dialog box also allows you to save data from unmapped fields in a general notes field for accounts and contacts. To do so, choose Account Note or Contact Note from the Map To drop-down list and click Map
- To change mappings that Salesforce performed automatically, click Change to the left of the appropriate field, then choose the Salesforce fields you want to map to and click Map.
- Click Next.
- Note: Unmapped fields are not imported into Salesforce. To see a list of standard Salesforce data fields, from Setup, at the top of the page, click Object Manager. Click the object whose fields you’re interested in, and click Fields & Relationships. For example, if you want to see a list of standard Salesforce fields for leads, click Object Manager | Lead | Fields & Relationships.
- Review and start your import.
- Review your import information on the Review page. If you still have unmapped fields that you want to import, click Previous to return to the previous page and specify your mappings.
- Click Start Import.
- Check import status. From Setup, enter “Bulk Data Load Jobs” in the Quick Find box, then select Bulk Data Load Jobs. The user who starts the data import receives a status email when the import is completed.
